Who I've Been

Over the past year I've taken a back seat on social media. I tried to scroll less and posted only trivial items. In August 2018 my spirit felt a pull that God was telling me to come off social media; that it was taking up more space in my life than it should. At one point social media, and the likes, filled a hole in my identity, it was time for that part to be removed. Social media wasn't the first thing to fill that hole; it's been a process.

At the start of the decade I turned 21, a part of my soul was lost, hurting, and angry; I tried filling the hole with earthly things. To fill the whole for years, I was a player. The summer when I was 22 "the universe" (I didn't have a relationship with God yet) told me I needed to slow down. At 23 I was in a relationship but until I was about 25 I used shopping to fill this hole, if I had an extravagant outside people would like me and buying new things made me feel good. My finances took a hit, before I even believed in God he pulled me out. In 2013 I discovered Instagram and by 2014 I realized I could post pictures of interesting things instead of buying it and the likes would fill the hole. I went from a player, to a shopaholic, to a like-aholic, then in 2015 God found me and I started walking more purposefully. I did my best to post with purpose but everything needed a filter and some posts were for the likes; a reason to constantly check my phone and feel wanted. The need for likes decreased over the years but the want for them was still there.

Over the last few days I've gone over the past decade (or 7 years) of Instagram posts. I've deleted over 300 posts that weren't there with purpose. They were there just for the likes. As I deleted I remembered who I've been....

2013- I just started using Instagram, was still learning it's purpose, quite frankly all over the place (just like with life). I was also trying to be a writer... I had blogs all over the place.

2014- I started using Instagram to recover from being a shopaholic. I was heart broken yet trying to move on and love someone else. Reminding myself not to let the world make me bitter and unkind. I was an avid reader; still trying to be a writer/ blogger;, loved minions, and obsessed with Starbucks. I also started going to zumba and became a bit obsessed with myself.

2015- Still obsessed with myself and a bit cocky over it (Note to self: ask 2015 Kathleen for some cockiness for 2020 Kathleen... I've lost my edge.) By the beginning of 2015 something in my soul had grown overly angry and bitter; I thought I was kind but I really wasn't, anger was a part of my personality. Then God found me, in my most lonely, bitter state. I gave up on being a writer. Finally, gave in to teaching and gave it to God, I found a job teaching, fell madly in love with young children and to this day I still find myself asking God why me. Summer 2015 was the Summer of all things minion. I was still obsessed with books and Starbucks.

2016- Was less of an artificial posts year, instead was a year where I slowly found purpose and was so busy working I didn't have time to think about shopping. Minions still played a big part and I became interested in the beautiful nature around us.

2017- I lived my best teacher life and my best life in general. There were celebrations, sunrises, and a ton of flowers. It was also the year I heard God constantly and in the most unexpected ways. He was also preparing me for what was to come.

2018- Winnie the Pooh, my childhood friend, took up many of the posts. Ed Sheeran was next to take up the most posts. Flowers and sunrises were present to. It's also the year my mom got sick and I held on to God for dear life and her life. The enemy was always nipping at me, I remember telling myself to just keep my thoughts on God and if I sang songs of worship outside her hospital doorway the enemy couldn't have his way. Then I lost sight of God because I needed a "break". If I don't talk to God, nothing in my life can move. 2018 was a traumatic year God reminded me life gets hard when you're attempting to break chains and generational curses.

2019- 2019 was a smooth year. I lived without the self-affirmation social media likes was giving me. I realized how much I would take a picture to post it on social media. This year I took pictures, left them in my phone or printed them. I did my best to live in the present and walk with a purpose that wasn't publicized.

Over the past decade I've learned anger doesn't solve anything, loving someone unconditionally is hard but worth it. My definition and expectation of friendship has been wired over the last five years; people are for me not against me. Even though it feels like it sometimes, I am never actually alone. There are people who love me unconditionally and God is always with me.

While I still scrolled and checked on friends' post, hopefully I start this year, and keep this year, no longer needing likes to remind me of my purpose. My posts will be less about how they fill me and more about how they can inspire someone else.

Grammy Night

Tonight the Grammy Awards settle down upon us. Dubbed as music's greatest night there will be performances, awards, cheers and tears, and most of all there will be commercials- not as great or underwhelming as the Super Bowls.

Who could forget the KIA baby astronaut commercial or the Doritos Pretty Pretty Princess dress up dad. Tonight we will just be getting regular commercials.

Tonight's Grammys should be a dud of a show. Nothing could happen to even come close in comparison to last year's show. There was the death of Whitney Houston and Adele taking home every Grammy nomination. This year we have nothing. Out of all the nominees there is no one I am specifically routing for. There will especially be no award surprises. There is no clear winner who might just be snubbed by a less deserving performer.

That's my reasoning for why CBS has placed a dress code. Maybe some of it might be because it's live and there's no time to blur an unexposed boob. By putting censorship in place it gives the audience something to tweet about. When Rihanna walks in with a low cut dress or when Ms. Cyrus walks in again with a side boob exposed  that's going to be trending on twitter. Everyone loves when someone breaks the rules. It makes for good trending gossip.

The second biggest thing going on with tonight's Grammys is L.L. Cool J himself. That man does not age, and those lips. Besides being on that CBS sitcom I can't remember the last thing he did as a music artist, but I still remember him when I was a kid.

It's a shame he has to wear clothes as a host, this look would definitely get more viewers, and I know I would for sure live tweet this. He also has a workout video, for all you ladies who want to curl up on the couch with a glass of wine and just watch.

Start watching at 1 min. that's when his shirt comes off.

What's great about the Grammys is the invention of YouTube. If you don't know a song just look it up and there it is. You can listen to the whole album and you know who you're rooting for. Unlike with the Academy Awards. If you didn't see it in the theater and it's not out on DVD yet your only option is watching a bootleg downloaded movie on your computer, that's harmful to the health of your  baby.

Here is the list of nominees in the 'General Field' and my predictions/ who I'm rooting for at this year's Grammy Awards.

I love how this whole category is filled with just women. That makes it so much harder to choose. I love Adele but I pledged allegiance to Kelly when I was a young teen. Katy spoke to me and put words perfectly to a feeling. I spent months singing to Call Me, Maybe. As for Rihanna she's on my bad list- anything related to Chris Brown is a thumbs down.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Shake It Out - Florence & the Machine
We Are Young - Fun. featuring Janelle Monáe

My girl Kelly and Pink are in the same category. This makes me torn but I think Maroon 5 will take this category. I've been a love hate fan of theirs since they first came out. They had a good comeback. I predict they will win but my heart belongs with Kelly and Pink.

Starbucks Revelation

http://thenextweb.com/2010/01/11/starbucks-formula-social-media-success/

When you live in New York City, Starbucks pop up everywhere. Depending on what neighborhood you're standing in. This particular coffee house tends to locate itself inside Targets as well. This may not be true for all over the country, but in NY the pair go together like peanut butter and jelly.

http://inhabitat.com/inhabitat-interview-8-questions-with-starbucks-global-responsibility-vp-ben-packard/
It's quite odd. The lower middle class is subject to this rather high priced coffee shop. I suppose this is good marketing- you have no local Starbucks because you're neighbors can't afford it but when those same neighbors go to Target they suddenly have the money for it.

Low and behold I found a little secret out about the Starbucks-Target matrimony. The coffee you purchase while shopping is cheaper than the the java you purchase while sitting in the cafe playing Facebook games on your laptop.

http://www.fastcompany.com/multisite_files/fastcompany/imagecache/mic2012_poster/mic2012/141-poster-starbucks-most-innovative-company-2012.png

Yesterday, while trying to complete my Starbucks Card 10 Star Dash I got a Target coffee while waiting for a prescription. I ordered a  tall blonde roast for my first time. Lately I've been drinking the grande Vanilla Blonde Roast. This particular beverage costs about $2.80 at my local Starbucks. Last week this same local Starbucks ran out of the Blonde and didn't get a restock for a coupe of days. On another note it bewilders me how a coffee house can run out of a certain type of drink. Two days in a row I ordered the tall Pike coffee. This beverage could cost me anywhere from $1.91 to a little over two dollars. I guess it depends whether or not the barista charged me tax.

http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/thefw.com/files/2012/04/Starbucks-Secret-Menu2.jpg

My Target tall Blonde Roast cost me $1.65, when you add in the tax my total was $1.80, the cheapest I've ever paid for a Starbucks coffee. When I went to the regular Starbucks a few hours later I checked out the price board. Here, a tall coffee costs $1.75 before tax, $.10 more expensive. I decided to get an iced coffee since I was a little sweaty from walking.

My best guess for the price difference is to make the coffee more appealing to the members of society that frequently shop at Target. It's a step above Wal-Mart and the .99 cent store but it still isn't no Bloomingdale's or Macy's.

My second guess is because the coffee isn't as strong or tasteful. The Target Starbucks' is regular Starbucks' ugly cousin who got all the hand me downs.

Stabucks Coffee shops that are present in
Targets must all have the same design.

I've seen both the picture below this
one and this exact setup featured
in both Targets that I go to frequently.

Today I had to go to Starbucks in order to get my 10th star for the Dash I mentioned earlier. I was going to try a regular Starbucks' tall Blonde roast in order to see if taste or strength of the coffee was stronger than the cup I had the day before. They must have known I was coming to out them. My local Starbucks was closed because of plumbing issues. I walked to the Target so I could get my last star.

It makes me wonder though what other prices are different. I never pay attention to the price of an Iced Caramel Macchiato, I always use my free drink reward to order a really big one. The next time I walk into the regular Starbucks I know what price difference I'm looking for.

The SAG Awards

Tonight we are once again presented with an award show celebrating cinema and television.  It better be worth while since Once Upon a Time and Revenge will not be airing tonight.

This time around, actors, who are a part of the Screen Actors Guild, vote on other actors. I wonder how many people voted for them selves.  This is almost like high school presidential elections. Hopefully the members of the SAG are smarter than students in high school are. Well, let's pray these actors and actresses are smarter than what the 'People' who voted for the People's Choice Awards were.  Leah Michelle isn't even funny. I've never laughed at anything she has ever done. And, is her dress see-through. Stars should just show up naked din that case.

Here are tonight's nominations and my predictions. 99 percent of these movies I have never seen so I'll be guessing... again.

The Golden Globes

The Golden Globes is an award show that I hear is like the black sheep cousin if The Academy Awards.  It's not as important, but any show where celebrities and those in the media are presented with some sort of statue is a big deal.

Let's not forget the fashion that strolls along the red carpet. Which I would like to mention I missed all of because I was trying to find a decent template for this blogger account.  Hence, none that I found worked and now I am left deliberating if the last 15 minutes of "Who are you wearing?" is worth it. Or even if watching the Golden Globes is worth it.

By the way is Kim Kardashian invited to these sorts of things.  She's every where yet has done nothing.

Back to the main attraction.  Before today I thought the Globes were for television but now I remember that's the Emmys. This award show celebrates both Movies and Television. Now my real question is why does the world need two same based award shows. What is the real difference.

Maybe the Globes are for those movies that graced our presence during the holiday season. That makes sense since I didn't see any of the nominated movies and I'm pretty sure none of come out on DVD as of yet. As for tv it beats me. It must be a celebration of all things visual.

Thanks to nj.com here are your nomnations, with who I think should win even though I know did-lie squat about anything nominated. All of which I haven't seen 90 percent of the trailers for.
